I always thought this record while good had more of a feeling of an ep. Side 2 seemed short and had a couple of "songs" that didn't belong. Therefore I created what should have been the proper running order as follows - 1.) A Sort Of Homecoming 2.) Pride 3.) Wire 4.) The Unforgettable Fire 5.) Promenade 6.) The Three Sunrises 7.) Indian Summer Sky 8.) Boomerang II 9.) Bad 10.) MLK

I own the regular 10-song edition on CD, and it's great. For some of the unreleased material, I can understand how it didn't make the cut. Not that it's bad, just the opposite, but much of it is rather dated, and is not much in the tradition of U2. However, I've heard speculation that "Disappearing Act" was an unfinished song that they re-recorded for this release (which seems fairly realistic when you listen to the guitar and drums). If that's the case, then I can't figure out for the life of e why they didn't finish it. I think that it's one of their most powerful songs to date (along with "Acrobat" from Achtung Baby). I can't stop listening to it!

a lot of unnecessary lengthy reviews here; suffice it to say this a very important production . . . . .

In my opinion, this is U2's second best album. After The Joshua Tree of course. This album was U2's first major success and deserves a lot of credit! The best songs are Bad, The Unforgettable Fire, and Pride (In the Name of Love). Those songs are classic U2 songs that everyone should have!

When I first bought this album on, vinyl, in 1985, took off the plastic cover, placed the record on my turntable, turned it on, placed the needle and the rest was history. The opening track "A Sort of homecoming" really gave me goosebumps and still does to this day. Great opener, great songs, great closer, great album!

"The Unforgettable Fire" by U2 is an album, in my opinion, is one of the most underrated album in their catolog. All the songs on the album, from the first track to the last, are SO magical, that you want to listen to it over and over. I rate this 5 stars. Brillant. Top Tracks on "The Unforgettable Fire": "A Sort of Homecoming", "Pride (In the Name of Love)", "The Unforgettable Fire", "Elvis Presley and America", "Disappearing Act", "A Sort of Homecoming (Live)" and "Bad (Live)".

I have always been a fan of the U2 deluxe stuff because you get the rare live recordings (see War Deluxe), but this is just UF + Wide Awake in America

...cases can be made for a few U2 albums as being their "best"...this is certainly in the discussion. while achtung baby is my favorite, this is most assuredly a best and a favorite of mine. timeless.
